from Kate Skeffington:

Hexwood - Dianna Wynne Jones
This is a wonderfully intricate story peopled with fully realized characters. Diana Wynne Jones has a way of creating the most complicated, engaging plots that simply reel you along and then she manages to bring it all together in the end.
Rag & Bones - Melissa Mar and Tim Pratt, editors
This is a collection of retold tales. The editors asked 9 contemporary, bestselling authors to revisit a classic story of their own choosing. "They pay homage to groundbreaking literary achievements of the past while celebrating each author's unique perception and innovative style." It is illustrated too!
Divergent - Veronica Roth
Dystopian Chicago. Adults have made a mess of it again...young outcasts to the rescue.

I got this book because it was a Kindle free download. I read it because I was stuck in an airport (twice) waiting for hours. I enjoyed it because it was not a book I would have normally found:
It has some uneven moments. Twice I had to make sure I hadn't hit the forward button too many times and skipped something. The family dynamics pull you along and you hope the heroine gets it together and makes a good choice ONCE.I won't tell you if she does or doesn't.

Today's post comes from Holly Newcomb:
Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
is a fast-paced monster story. Imagine a blood-thirsty beast roaming the sub-basements of the New York Museum of Natural History. The administrative types stage a cover-up to protect the Museum and the opening of a blockbuster exhibit. The scientists are using all their research skills to help the good-guy cops catch the monster before it kills again. For those of you who have seen the (pretty good) movie, the book is better. A ripping good yarn.

From Blair Book Club:
Cage of Stars
by Jacquelyn Mitchard
This was a "can't turn the pages fast enough" gripping tale of suspense. Read it and join in the discussion when Book Club gets together next. Cheryl will make an announcement when that will happen. It is just the kind of book you might want to read for fun.
